Glossary Definition
Loss of Use / Additional Living Expenses
Coverage wording for qualifying expenses or losses when a home cannot be used under specified policy conditions.
Loss-of-use wording may address additional living expenses when covered damage makes the home unusable. The TDI guide describes expenses above what you would otherwise have spent.
Check the trigger and limits
Ask which costs qualify, what records are needed and what dollar or time limits apply. An evacuation or access restriction without physical damage needs its own policy review.
Do not assume every hotel or meal expense is reimbursed, or that rental-income terms match owner-occupied living-expense terms.
Read how loss of use works and claims preparation. Your insurer, not this site’s quote line, evaluates claim expenses.
