Glossary Definition
Dwelling Coverage
The policy section for the insured home structure, with a stated limit, covered-loss terms and settlement conditions.
Dwelling coverage is the section addressing the insured home structure. The TDI guide describes it as paying for damage from causes the policy covers, subject to the actual terms.
What to check
Ask which attached features are included, how the limit was estimated and what settlement basis applies. Detached structures may be addressed elsewhere. Flood, maintenance and other exclusions require separate review.
The dwelling limit is not necessarily sale price or mortgage balance. Ask the insurer to explain the rebuilding assumptions, any additional rebuilding protection and conditions for payment.
See how much dwelling coverage to discuss, other structures and replacement cost.
