Glossary Definition
Other Structures Coverage
The policy section to review for detached garages, sheds, fences and similar property apart from the main home.
Other structures coverage addresses certain structures separate from the dwelling. The TDI guide gives detached garages, sheds and fences as examples.
Review each structure
Ask whether the structure is included, the applicable limit and settlement basis, and whether business or rental use changes the terms. Do not assume every detached building is automatically insured to its full replacement cost.
Cause-of-loss and deductible questions still apply. Tree-removal costs are not resolved solely by knowing that a fence is insured.
See fallen-tree questions and dwelling coverage to distinguish the sections.
