Saint Paul’s Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI) moved permits and licensing to a system called PAULIE. Combined with the city’s building permits dataset, it gives homeowners a way to verify work done on a house — useful when an agent asks about the roof or wiring.
Check permits in PAULIE
DSI’s PAULIE page describes looking up property information, permit status and inspections. Search your address for:
- roof and siding permits;
- electrical service and panel upgrades;
- furnace, boiler and water heater replacements;
- additions and basement finishes.
Use the open dataset for history
The building permits dataset covers permits back to 2013. For older work, ask DSI or the seller for records.
Historic homes
If your Saint Paul home is older or historic — plaster walls, old-growth trim, boiler heat — rebuilding cost deserves attention. Rebuilding those features costs more. Ask:
- Does the policy pay full replacement cost?
- Is ordinance or law coverage included?
- Does the insurer have rules on knob-and-tube wiring or old boilers?
See older homes coverage.
Winter and trees
Mature trees and heavy snow mean questions about fallen trees, ice dams and frozen pipes.
Do the annual checkup
The Minnesota Department of Commerce’s annual checkup is a good routine. Our Minnesota guide summarizes it.
Call for a quote
When ready, call for a free quote. HomeInsurerQuotes.org connects callers with a licensed insurance agent; carriers, pricing and eligibility vary, and not all callers qualify.
By phone
What happens when you call
A conversation lets the agent ask about your specific home instead of relying on a generic online estimate. There are no online forms to fill out.
Describe your home
Share the address, size, age, construction, and roof or system updates. You do not need every detail to start.
Talk through coverage
Explain what you want covered and ask about limits, deductibles, and exclusions that apply to your property.
Compare and decide
Ask for the written quote terms and compare them before deciding. A call or a quote does not start coverage.
